But Mama I’m In Love With a Criminal

Being “in love” with a maniac is not cute. It’s not quirky; it’s not funny; it’s not acceptable. But lately, it seems like more and more people are becoming desensitized to this topic, completely disregarding the fact that these people they are obsessed with are criminals. Literal criminals. Thanksgiving vs. Christmas

When I came to this country, November had just commenced. No leaves were falling—because I live in Florida and autumn does not exist here—but the weather was nice.

At the time I did not even know that Thanksgiving was coming up or that it even existed, but I soon learned about it and even participated at a family dinner. Decorations were up, the turkey was full and sizzling and gratefulness and joy filled the air.

That was five years ago.  Continue reading “Thanksgiving vs. Christmas”

On Condemning Journalism for Its Neutrality: The Harvard Crimson Scandal

Back on September 12th of this year, the Harvard Crimson, one of the university’s newspapers, published an article called “Harvard Affiliates Rally for Abolish ICE Movement,” in which they informed about a campus protest against the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. In the article, they mentioned that they were trying to contact the federal law enforcement agency to get their comments on the matter at hand, but because of that, the newspaper has faced major backlash. The Illogical Stigma Around Tattoos

Photo from here.

A tattoo is essentially just a permanent marking done on the skin by a needle or a set of needles. We all know what they are, but do we all like them? No. In fact, many people even go as far as to hate them and consider them vulgar and unprofessional.

But is it even really that deep? Also no. It’s just a permanent marking on someone’s skin, so why all the drama? Continue reading “The Illogical Stigma Around Tattoos”

Women Demand Equality

Picture here.

It seems like nowadays everyone is too busy shaming or disregarding feminists for their complaints on our government’s lack of equality and equity to actually listen to the valid things they have to say—one of these things being the ongoing issue with the wage gap among genders.

So, first of all, what is the wage gap? Continue reading “Women Demand Equality”

Upholding a Diverse Disney: The Little Mermaid Live-Action

Disney announced a few weeks ago the actress that would take on the role of Ariel in the upcoming live-action of the Little Mermaid: Halle Bailey. Many were thrilled about the choice of actress, given Halle is not the typical red-haired, white girl; she’s black. Because of that, many took it upon themselves to get worked up for no reason and even be publicly racist on social media. The problem with PETA

Despite PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)’s constant claim that their main goal is to stop harsh and immoral treatment towards animals, it turns out that even they have forgotten about it. There have been a few cases that showcase that PETA is not as saintlike as they declare to be. Continue reading “The problem with PETA”

December 14: A bomb threat at Sandy Hook on the anniversary of the 2012 mass shooting

Imagine you’re seated in class at your elementary school. Your teacher talks about how today you’ll be learning to divide; you gleam with newfound excitement, eager to start this path towards knowledge that seems to be opening up for you.

Suddenly, you hear a sound–a sound that scares you to your bones and spends creepy chills down your spine: the school’s alarm is blaring and someone’s voice has announced that the school is on lock-down and everyone has to get out immediately. And I Can’t Help But Think: What Will Become of Us?

Just as a warning, I will say this: this is my own opinion and if you believe otherwise, then that’s your own opinion, which I respect, so respect mine the same way.

This year’s Midterm elections took place yesterday, November 6, 2018. From 7 pm all the way until 2 am of today, I spent my time anxiously, eyes glued to my phone’s screen to check if I got any Twitter alerts that announce the winners for Florida’s gubernatorial and senatorial races. Continue reading “And I Can’t Help But Think: What Will Become of Us?”

The Reason Behind the Purge Show’s Success

The series came out on September 4th and, so far, it has gotten mixed reactions Continue reading “The Reason Behind the Purge Show’s Success”
